About Dave

A little bit about me. As you have probably guessed, my name is Dave. I am an Independent Investor, I am in my early-40s, I own a successful business in the Staffing Industry, I am a husband and a father of three boys, I own a few small rental properties and, since I was 16, I have been investing in the Stock Market.

Alert reader that you are, I am also sure you have noted that I am a “value Investor.” For those of you who do not know, Value Investing is simply the process of identifying and investing in businesses who’s true value is not being recognized in the current share price AND which has a reasonable prospect of that situation being corrected in a reasonable amount of time (ie, the price goes up to reflect the true value). It’s sort of like trying to buy a dollar for $0.70. It’s a simple enough concept but it’s a bit tricky to do well, and over-time.

Happily, I’ve gotten pretty good at. For example, since July 2007 this RRSP account has returned $18%+ per year and has turned $10,000 into $38,000 to December 31, 2016. This compares with an investment in the S+P 500 ETF (Total Return) which returned 8% and turned $10,000 into $18,000 over the same period [I will also add numbers for the TSX]. While my RRSP has been open for longer than 2007, I only have records going back to this period. My other investment accounts have similar returns as I invest in similar securities across all my portfolios, only changing the allocations.

My hobbies include visiting my local pub and pubs which are recommended to me, playing soccer, coaching soccer, watching soccer, watching any other sport when time permits, barbequing and keeping an eye out for really great wine.

Like what you see and you think Dave is a great guy?
